Jaques Staunton Ivory Chess Set in Carton Pierre Casket, 3", ca. 1855

Jaques Staunton Ivory Chess Set in Carton Pierre Casket, 3", ca. 1855

The Holy Grail for every chess collector: 3" Jaques ivory set, one side stained in red, the other side left natural, dating to ca. 1855. White king stamped "Jaques London" on the underside of the base. Rooks and knights with king side stamping. The set is in very good condition. The cross finial on the white knight had been replaced with a  cross, which did not quite match the proportions. Mark Richli was so friendly to provide a fitting replacement. The set came in a carton pierre casket with the red label and the numbering starting with "3" used for ivory sets.
