German Chess Set, Art Déco, ca. 1900-1930
I bought the set some time ago and according to the seller it is a German chess set from the Art Déco period between 1900 - 1930. It came with a storage box of approximately this age. The pieces are lightly weighted, but a bit too tall for serious play.
Similar sets with white and black lacquer finish were later also produced in China in a less elaborate version. Nevertheless, the origin of these pieces remains a mystery so far. If anybody has further information, please send me a message via the contact details in the Impressum.
