French Staunton Chess Set with Glass Eyed Knights, 1930-1950

French Staunton Chess Set with Glass Eyed Knights, 1930-1950

An old tournament sized set with glass eyed knights, perhaps from the period 1930 - 1950. The white pieces are made of olive wood. The dark pieces are likely of the same timber, but lacquered with a dark brown varnish. According to information I received from the seller when buying it, this is a German set, presumably from the 1930's. I have good reasons to believe, however, that the pieces are rather French than German. King size is 93 mm or 3.65". All pieces are weighted. Shown on an Edwardian board with stepped bases and a Dutch wooden pushbar clock, which is most likely an early Koopman clock from the 1930's.
