Early / Mid 19th Century Chinese Lacquer & Mother of Pearl Chess Board

A black & gold lacquered folding chess board with mother of pearl inlays for the white squares, which was made in Canton / China presumably in the first half of the 19th century. 49.5 x 49.5 cm size unfolded, backgammon on the inside. The level of details in the gold ornamentation is simply incredible. Each black square is decorated with a different motif. Chinese lacquer boards are fairly common, but the version with mother of pearl inlays is rather rare. It is a perfect match for my Cantonese white & green ivory set from the same period.
