Old English Chess Set "St. George" Pattern, Calvert, ca. 1820
Antique Old English set in the "St. George" pattern, probably dating to around 1820. The rosewood and boxwood pieces have no factory marks, but the Knights have some similarities with sets coming from the Calvert workshop. The King size is 85 mm. Displayed on an Edwardian board (ca. 1900), with inlaid squares of rosewood and boxwood fitting to the texture of the pieces.
