A plastic chess set by the E. S. Lowe Company with a king size of 3.25". It is a No. 841, which was one of the sets in the Staunton design, which Lowe copyrighted in 1945 and apparently started selling in 1946. The colour combination is "Ivory & Black". The cheaper versions of this set were hollow pieces sold in simple cardboard boxes. This is the more luxurious version, which was heavily weighted and felted and came in a presentation case with Lowe's embroidered logo in the upper left corner. More information on the E. S. Lowe Company is provided by Duncan Pohl in his book "Vintage Chess Sets of the United States".
A similar set was featured in Season 5, Episode 22 of the American sitcom "Friends".
