Philippine Staunton Chess Set, ca. 1970

Philippine Staunton Chess Set, ca. 1970

Staunton chess set presumably made in the Philippines. The dark pieces are made from Kamagong wood, the white pieces from a lighter mellow wood, maybe Narra or Acacia. The set is rather small, king size is 93 mm (3.65"). The pieces are a variation of the traditional Philippine Staunton pattern with a couple of design deviations, e.g. in the tall shape of the Bishops or the globe shape of the Kings' crown including the differing cross finials. However, the similarities are also visible, e.g. the identical form of the Knights.
