English Bone Chess Set, "Barleycorn" Pattern, ca. 1850

Mid-19th century English bone Barleycorn set. The king size is 87 mm. The kings with cogged crown finials. All pieces with cogged bases (except the white queen, the base of which was replaced, hence the queen is also smaller than the other side's queen). The kings' and queens' barrels are ornamented with a so called "Plain" or "True Barleycorn". Rooks as turreted towers. Bishops with closed mitres. Pawns with ball finials.
