Indian Ebony and Ivory Chess Set, ca. 1900
Ivory and ebony chess set with large circular bases, India, circa 1900. One side with ebony bases, the other side left natural. Kings with pierced crowns, queens with crowns but of smaller size, bishops with egg shaped mitres, knights as horses' heads, rooks as turrets, pawns with ball finials. King 6.5 cm high.
The set is shown on a 19th century inlaid marble and malachite chess board on a raised gilt metal frame with four paw supports.
