Chinese Export Ivory Chess Set, ca. 1950
Chinese Export Ivory Chess Set. The set is made from mammoth ivory, i.e. fossil ivory, which can be seen from the very visible Schreger lines on some of the pieces. One side natural, the other side stained in brown. The Knights have a very unusual shape, which I have not seen before. All in all a very nice little playing set with a King size of 65 mm. The set comes in a fitted box typical for Chinese sets. I think it was made around 1950.
