Indian Ivory Chess Set, ca. 1900-1930

Here is a small chess set made in India. The former owner sold it as a late 19th century set, but I would rather date it to the first quarter of the 20th century. King size is 6.8 cm. While the set has design features of the Staunton pattern, inter alia the kings with large crosses and the smaller queens with a coronet, and is playable in general, it is rather difficult to distinguish the two sides. Both sides are in natural white colour and the "dark" pieces are marked only with two red circles on the bases. This type of "colour coding" is not uncommon in Indian sets. All in all a nice little set.

Please also note the beautiful board box, which is made of wood with bone and mother of pearl inlays.
