German Handcarved Chess Set, ca. 1920-1950

A handcarved figural folk art chess set in the carving style of the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) with a king size of 9.4 cm. The pieces are carved from linden wood, one side natural, the other side stained dark brown. The wood of the white side is strongly patinated, which makes me believe that the set is a tad older and might date to the first half of the 20th century. The kings and queens in regal clothing with the kings leaning on a long sword. The bishops as officers in military uniform with a peaked cap and a sabre. The knights as rearing horses. The rooks as fortified towers with brickwork pattern. The pawns as dwarves with pointed dwarf hats. All pieces on square bases.
