Pegged Chess Set (probably F. H. Ayres), early 20th century
A rather large pegged chess set with an accompanying folding board (chess on the outside, backgammon on the inside) probably made by F. H. Ayres around the turn of the century. The pieces are in the Staunton pattern with a king size of 7.8 cm. The white side is made of boxwood, the black side of ebony. Rooks and knights with king side stamping. All pieces with green felts on the underside. The entire set is beautifully made and of high quality typical for F. H. Ayres.
