Austrian Coffeehouse Chess Set in the Biedermeier style, made around 1830 from boxwood, one side ebonised, the other left natural. King size is 6.8 - 7.3 cm with the white king being slightly smaller. Kings with double galleries, queens with single galleries. Kings and queens with elongated spherical heads. Knights as horses' heads. Bishops with slanted caps in the opposite colour. Rooks as turrets with alternate coloured ball finials.
