Philippine Moro Chessmen, 20th century
Chessmen with a king size of 6 cm made by the Bangsamoro (or Moro) people in Mindanao, Philippines, likely dating to mid-20th century. The pieces are made of local hardwood and buffalo horn. The centrepieces of every Moro chess set are undoubtedly the knights with their exotic ornamentation, which are particularly distinctive and attractive in this set. For more information on Moro chess sets, see my article
published on Chess News & Views and the description of this set here.
